Day 11

Correction: Sheru is not making the sweets- he's buying them!

So Hena and I did make it to the Theosophical Society. We got to see the 2 acre banyan tree, a Hindu temple(right) and a few other buildings that might have been a church and a synagogue however they were not labeled and we had to get out quickly because we were already there past closing time.

The space of the place is what amazed me. There is this huge stretch of almost untouched land in the middle of Chennai! There was grass, trees, flowers, bushes, cacti, plants, and more plants. The buildings were tucked in behind and within the shrubbery. Hena tells me that if you want to live there you have to have some amazing contacts. Also you must be willing not to be very militant about your faith. There is a Christian church, a number of different Hindu temples, a synagogue, a Sikh temple, and another one I can't remember all in the same place. There is an amazing sense of peace there, and you can smell earth. That smell of plants, dirt, and mostly clean water is everywhere inside there. It was nice to smell after the city smell of exhaust and sweaty bodies!

After we left there we went to City Center and met two of her cousins and her aunt. The cousins were as exuberant as Hena and myself. The security guard of the store we were near looked nervous! LoL! Her aunt was more reserved but I made her laugh a lot. : ) Ahh, go me.

After we met with them for a while Hena and I had desert and hot chocolate and then grabbed supper to bring home with us.
The auto drivers outside City Center kept asking us to go to CORRECTION: nearby craft shops (they'd have gotten a commission for bringing potential buyers) before they would drive us where we needed to go so we walked to the nearest bus station and caught a bus home.
And there is my day... slightly uneventful, but quite pleasurable. : )

Hey girl!

Papaw says he's been reading all your blogs, but he doesn't have an account that will let him post a response .... so ... from Papaw and Granny ... "HEY"

Also ... what kind of chickens do they have over there? Who has them? Families? Communities? What breeds are they? Can you take some pictures of them?

Have a good time. We love you.

I have seen two chickens... they were scrawny and brown on the side of the road. If I can manage to see one long enough to snap a picture I will!
